Since Sony first came to North America in 1960, its employees have actively supported charitable causes in communities around the US. We have been a corporate sponsor for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's MS Bike Tours. In our annual United Way campaign, employees donate to the charity of their choice and Sony Electronics matches all or part of the donation.

Every year, employees participate in civic initiatives such as Dress for Success, which provides professional clothing to disadvantaged women, and Back-to-School drives for underprivileged children, as well as food and toy drives. Another popular effort is Habitat for Humanity, in which volunteers provide low-cost housing to needy families.

Sony Electronics strongly supports educational programs such as the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, which awards scholarships to African American, American Indian and Latino women and men interested in engineering, math and science.

We have a close relationship with four U.S. high schools local to Sony sites in the United States through its Star Class program, which awards $10,000 scholarships to college-bound students each year. Sony also donates electronics products such as computers to schools throughout the United States needing assistance.

Sony Electronics Corporate Giving Program

In 1972, Sony launched the Sony USA Foundation, becoming the first Japanese company to establish a private, non-profit philanthropic foundation in the United States. With funding from the Sony USA Foundation, Sony's Corporate Giving Program is dedicated to supporting the communities that our employees work and live through cash and product donations. Sony matches employee' monetary donations to organizations in the following categories: arts, education and hospitals. Our focus is to support education initiatives — specifically support of local schools and their programs. Sony welcomes requests for support throughout the year.
